CANTON TOWNSHIP — For
owners who feel guilty about leaving their pet locked up in the house
during the day, they can benefit from the pet-sitting services of
Roberta Cubbin, owner of Comfy Creatures.
Karen Lundhild of Canton
Township has been a customer since 1998 after finding Cubbin’s business
in the phone book and later checking out the business’s Web site.
Lundhild said she had a dog
that was ill, but veterinarians were unable to pinpoint the cause.
Cubbin took the dog to the veterinarian clinic three times in one week,
making sure that he got the proper care, Lundhild said,
“Since I started a new job
that very same week, I couldn’t take off from work,” she said.
Although the pet died,
Lundhild said Cubbin’s commitment had her sold.
“I have never had a problem
with my house or my animals; I trust her implicitly,” said Lundhild, one
of Cubbin’s many customers who live in Canton Township.
Cubbin, a former veterinary
technician, started the business in 1998 in Wayne.
“I have been walking dogs
since I was little,” she said. “I wasn’t allowed to have cats or dogs,
so I would go to my neighbors and ask them if I could walk their dogs.”
A resident of Wayne, Cubbin,
30, offers to walk an animal, provide puppy and kitten care and
overnight care and will give animals their medication.
Plus, Cubbin and her fiance
and business partner, John Chapman, will take in the mail and water the
plants for clients who are at work or on vacation.
“My clients don’t have to
rush home after work or don’t have to worry about the dog crossing its
legs, needing to go out for a walk,” she said.
There is no limit on the
number of animals that Cubbin will care for, she said. One client has 15
indoor cats, an outdoor feral cat colony and an outdoor dog, she said.
Cubbin said she is insured,
bonded and can handle emergency situations.
“Animal lovers need to think
about who they are letting into their home,” she said. “If a house alarm
goes off or a water pipe bursts, you have to feel that the person is
going to be prepared to handle it.”
